Cookie Policy

Last updated: 25 June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how the Irish Claims Service uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on claimsservice.ie. Please read it alongside our Terms of Use & Privacy Policy, which sets out how we handle the personal data those technologies may produce.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your browser when you visit. They allow the site to remember things about your visit — your preferences, whether you are signed in, the cookie choices you have already made. Most cookies do not identify you personally; they identify your browser and device.

We also use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage and tracking pixels. References to "cookies" in this policy cover those technologies too.

Categories of cookies we use

Required (strictly necessary)

Essential for the website to function — security, your session, CSRF protection on forms, and remembering your cookie choices. The site cannot operate without them, and they are set whether or not you accept other cookies.

Functional

Improve your experience on the site — for example remembering your dark-mode preference in the admin, the position of UI panels and your last search. Set only with your consent.

Analytics

If you opt in, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors arrive at and move through the site so we can improve it. Analytics cookies record things like the pages you visit, the time spent on each, and where you came from. They do not identify you personally.

Third-party cookies

Some pages embed content or services from other companies, and those parties may set their own cookies. We do not control them. Third parties whose cookies may be set on our site include Cloudflare (security and performance), Google (analytics, if you have opted in), and the live-chat provider used by our editorial team. Each has its own cookie and privacy policy.

Managing your cookies

When you first visit the site you will see a cookie banner asking what you would like to allow. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the cookie consent we store and refreshing the page.

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's settings:

Blocking required cookies will break parts of the site. Blocking functional or analytics cookies is safe — you will lose some convenience features but the site will work.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever the cookies we use or the categories above change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page is the version date.
